Cardiac Rehabilitation and heart disease prevention

Cardiac rehabilitation helps the patient in returning to full function both at work and at home while acquiring correct life style habits.

Cardiac Rehabilitation and heart disease prevention

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Institute is part of the Cardiology Complex of the Barzilai Medical Center, which includes the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit, the Catheterization Laboratory, the Electrophysiology and Pacemakers Unit, the Non-invasive Cardiology Unit and the Nuclear Cardiology.
The institute includes main gym, auxiliary training studio, dressing rooms and storage room for personal equipment.
The equipment includes devices for aerobic activity and muscle strength and endurance activity. There is also a resuscitation cart with all the necessary equipment, monitoring devices (heart rate and electrocardiogram), blood pressure measuring equipment and weighing.

Patients are referred to the rehabilitation institute from inpatient hospital departments, hospital outpatient clinics and community clinics and are assigned to groups of 10 patients for one-hour training twice a week.

There are currently six full teams practicing on Monday and Thursday morning between the hours of 8:00 to 12:30 and 16:00 to 18:00 in the afternoon.

Patient admission activities, information and training are conducted individually and in groups by multidisciplinary team that includes physician, nurse and effort physiologist.

The gym is located at the Western hospital building and run by Dr. Boris Brodkin, a senior cardiologist.
