Geriatrics

The geriatric department was designed according to the best modern hospitality facilities for the sake of the patients. The 36 beds department, two to three beds in each room, is spacious and is intended for patients over 60 years for women and over 65 years for men. Patients from the emergency department will be transferred straight to geriatric department and patients from other departments of the hospital will be transferred as needed.

The new geriatric department under the direction of Dr. Artool Rimon is part of the process of upgrading the internal medicine departments of the Barzilai medical center.

Dr. Artool said that he is very glad and excited. The new department is the right place for the elderly for treating his acute disease in the hospital. The treatment in the department includes programs for functional and cognitive assessment of the patient, diagnosis and age therapy taking into consideration patient's cardiac, renal and liver function. The aim of the department is to restore his best functional independence in the shortest period.

The staff of the department is multi-disciplinary and includes social worker, physiotherapist and occupational therapist beside medical treatment. This multidisciplinary team allows a wide vision of the needs of the patient and family upon discharge.

Prof Levy was very excited to open the new geriatric department right at the beginning of a new year. He said that the hospital made great effort to improve its services and all the staff of the hospital is proud of this success.

The Barzilai medical center will continue to develop in order to offer the best medical treatment to the people of the area.
