Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures

 

Dr. Assali, the head of depertment, was trained in outside Israel and gained great experience in different endoscopic procedures including the use of robots under Dr. Vinchy's guidance. Multiple procedures can be performed with the help of robots like total or partial nephrectomy, resection of the kidney with the ureter simultaneously, radical protatectomy, recomstruction of the ureter with the pelvis of the kidney and resection of undescended testis. Minimally invasive operations shorten the painful period after the surgery and speed the recovery tim and return to normal life.

 

Endoscopic Procedures

Many operations on the urinary system are being performed nowadays with laparotomy but through natural opening, the urethra. Using these systems and the transdermal method the doctor can perform resection of the prostate, resection of tumors of the urinary bladder, stop bleeding, extraction of kidney stones and even treat some inborn malformations.

All these procedures can be performed by the modern miniature cameras and laser systems.

 

Pediatric Urology 

 

This area includes procedures to treat enuresis, reconstruction of inborn defects of the urinary and sexual systems starting close to the birth and minimally invasive nephrolithiasis procedures.

 

Nephrolithiasis

 

Nephrolithiasis is very common and during the last years there have been great revolution in the procedures of removing urinay stones like extracorporal shock wave lithotripsy and transermal extraction of urinay stones. We have the most modern systems to perform these proceidures.

 

Surgery of the Uro-gynecogical system

The adjacency of the urinary system to the female reproductive system may interfere with each other thus causing symptoms like urinary incontinence, This one of th emost common complaints in older women. Urodynamic tests are critical for diagnosis and new minimally invasive procedures can be used to relieve it.

 

Erectile Dysfuntion and Andrology

Erectile dysfunction is a very common disorder among men and women. The mosr common disorders in men erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Many drugs have been developed during the last decade to treat these symptoms but few patients may need some minimal invasive interventions like prosthesis implantation. Definig the best choice of treatment depends on the results of advanced investigations like blood vessels imaging and night erection. Treatments include pills, vaccuum suction, injections and finally implantation of a prosthesis.

 

Academic and Research activities

Residents of the urology department are involved in many local. national and international reasearch in cooperation with universities inside and outside Israel. The medical staff is also involved in many medical article publications in the different well known medical journals and national and international congresses.

The medical staff is also involved in developing new systems to treat urinary bladder cancer and new systems wich improve the accuracy of fine needle aspiration of the prostate.

The senior staff conducts regular lectures and journal club with the residents and is also involved in teaching at the school of nursing.

Regular department and interdepartmental rounds are conducted regulary including the radiology and pathology staff.
