Description of the human resource department
The number of personnel working at the Barzilai medical center is 1700, and this number includes:
670 nurses and caregivers
240 physicians
150 para-medical technicians
330 administrative and housekeeping personnel
The number of pensioners stands today on 420.
In addition, the Barzilai medical center is the only hospital in Israel that has the Regional Health Bureau affiliated to it. This means that the manpower department is responsible also for 160 personnel from the Regional Health Bureau, including environmental health personnel, food personnel, public health nurses and physicians of the schools and family health centers.
Extra personnel:
Personnel of the Fund for Medical Research, Infrastructure Development and Health Services: 187 employees who work in different medical and non-medical departments and units.
National service: 85 employees.
Volunteers from the patient assisting group and people from the national rehabilitation.

The human resource department staff deals with all the aspects of preparation and maintenance of the employees, the welfare of the employees, preservation of knowledge, training and development, safety, pension and other subjects.
Activities
Recruitment of manpower: Advertising tenders, performance of frontal interviews and decision of employment.
Absorbance of new employees: Each new employee receives a booklet with all the information about the medical center: rights and obligations, working hours, ethical issues, prevention of sexual harassment, safety issues, patients' rights, risk management, security and more. In addition to the booklet, each new employee is obliged to take part in the tutorial on mass events organization and his role on the event.

Developing manpower
Development the manpower is a top value of the department. Therefore, the section of tuition and development of professional and personal skills runs courses and seminars for organizational development of the employees.
Welfare of the employee
The mission of the welfare section is to take care of all the small things important to the employee and the pensioners like presents on birthdays and marriage days, gift cards on feasts, and more.
The welfare section looks after the health of the employees by reminding them for periodical blood test and exercising sport.
Once a year, the administration of the Barzilai medical center conducts celebration event for the excellent employees and for the employees who recently retired.

The welfare section publishes quarterly magazine to inform the employees about the new developments at the center, new employees, excellent employees, and more.
Volunteering
The administration of the Barzilai medical center encourages volunteering of the retired personnel in the different departments and units of the center.
