New in Barzilai: RI Witness system in the IVF Unit

Errors in matching eggs, sperms and embryos during in vitro fertilization occur from time to time and cause severe suffering and disappointment to the couple and in many cases lead to many lawsuits. Until lately, identification was performed by comparing and reading loudly the name and personal identity number of the patient and the number of the slide by three medical personnel. Nevertheless, mismatching occurs.

The new RI Witness system adds an electronic support to identify the specimens and prevents the possibility of errors. Every culture dish and specimen tube that is used at any point in the IVF process is labeled with a unique bar code that links each item to the intended patient’s chart. The embryologist scans the barcode and verifies that the dish belongs to the intended patient.
